Hubble had great real achievements such as getting humanity past the ideas of vastness of space by showing us that Andromeda was a different galaxy etc.  But his idea of expanding universe by a misinterpretation of the redshift had essentially blocked progress in physics.  From my own perspective, one of the key issues of the physics of our universe is that quantization of energy is explained by the scaled 4-sphere shape of the universe.  The radius $1/h$ numerically where $h$ is Planck constant is the source of quantization of energy, and its constancy is what shows that the universe is static and eternal.  At the moment, support for the S4 picture comes not only from empirical fit to redshift slope but also an explanation of Lamb shift solving the Dirac equation on the 4-sphere with a Coulomb potential.  Dirac’s original fit of the energy spectrum in flat 3-space did not explain the Lamb shift.  We also have a simple quantitative explanation of the relative weakness of gravity in an S4 universe.  It is the issue of the weakness of gravity that had kept the remarkable Kaluza-Klein theories from acceptance.  The S4 picture automatically produces a cosmological constant of $h^2$ which is close to the measured.
